The Need

​On September 19th , 2017, Hurricane Maria devastated the Caribbean island of Dominica, reducing classrooms and school resources to rubble.  Progress has been made and many schools have been repaired or rebuilt.  Others are still awaiting reconstruction as the long process of recovery continues.

The photos below show examples of Dominican schools in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.
​The impact of the hurricane continues to be felt on education in Dominica.  It has been disastrous and the challenge of rebuilding is staggering.  ​Ninety percent of all school infrastructure was fully destroyed or damaged by 280 km/h winds and punishing rain.
